According to modern day psychologists, when16 year old Florence Nightingale said that God had told her that she needed to be a nurse, she wasn’t speaking metaphorically; it was her first experience with auditory hallucinations. Using Florence’s private writing and her correspondence, historians and psychologists determined that she dealt with bipolar disorder, which both helped and hindered her amazing career.
