Athens Lunatic Asylum opened in 1874. Initially reknowned for its top-notch PTSD treatment for Civil War veterans, it took the normal turn of over population and abuse. In 1978, patient Margaret Schilling went missing. A month later, her body was found in the attic of one of the unrenovated buildings. When the body was removed, it left a stain on the floor that no amount of scrubbing would remove… a stain that remains to this day.
